How to grow your mushrooms

What's included?

A fruiting block filled with fresh mycelium and spray bottle to keep your mycelium moist.

We do the tricky part, providing you a healthy block of mycelium. We use our years of experience and specialist equipment to make sure every block is perfect. We have a dedicated lab where we grow the mycelium cultures that we use to inoculate the fruiting blocks. The mycelium is grown on quality hardwood sawdust from local woodlands. All you have to do is fruit the mushrooms from the mycelium... easy!

How to grow your mushrooms

-Peel the small sticker off of the front of the box. This is where your mushrooms will be growing from later.

-Cut open your mycelium block through the hole in the box. Use a clean pair of scissors. This exposes the mycelium to fresh air, which is the first trigger to start growing mushrooms.

-Open the top of the cardboard box and remove the plastic wrapped block of mycelium.

-Soak the block in cold water for a few hours or overnight. Doing this ensures the mycelium has enough moisture to grow the mushrooms. Mushrooms can be up to 90% water!

-Drain any excess water from the bag and put it back in the box. Keeping the block in the box helps concentrate the fruiting to one place, so you don’t miss out on any mushrooms.

-Put the grow kit somewhere cool and out of direct sunlight, but not out of sight! Once the mycelium starts fruiting, the mushrooms will double in size every day, it’s magic to watch.

-Keep your kit moist by gently misting it twice a day. This step is key to getting a good harvest. You want to keep the exposed mycelium moist.

-You should see mushrooms within 2 weeks. Some mushrooms are shy, if they take longer to grow, be patient. Factors like light, temperature, and humidity all affect the speed the mushrooms grow. If you don’t see any growth within 4 weeks, please contact us HERE.

-You’ll know your Oyster mushrooms are ready to harvest when the caps are beginning to unfurl, but haven’t become flat. Your mushrooms can double in size every day, so be sure to keep a close eye on them!

-With Lion’s Mane, Keep an eye on the spines (or teeth), as the mushrooms grows they’ll become distinct from each other and grow up to 3cm long. You can harvest the Lion’s Mane once the teeth are 1cm long.

-Now for the best bit, if you repeat the above steps you can get a second, third or even a fourth harvest.

-You can compost your mycelium once you're done. Mushroom growing kits make a rich supplement for your soil, not only because of the nutrients they contain, but also because of the way the mycelium interacts with the other organisms in the ground (check out mycorrhizal relationships if you want to know more).
